New Advertising Regulations
Hi everybody,
We have just found out in the past week that there are new regulations going into effect on December 1 for how we as advertisers and advertising media handle our relationship with you, our public. In essence, it’s really about transparency, and will be monitored (and policed, I suspect) by the USA Feredal Trade Commission. I’ve seen some information about the new rules, and it’s difficult for a non-legal person to put it all together, but the text that we are now placing on or in the vicinity of our advertising – both the “blatant” ads and the in-line not-so-clear text links like this one – is a taste of what we think is coming, and not only in the Internet. The new rules and regulations apply to all types of advertising, from printed matter (newspapers and magazines) to TV and radio.
Obviously, our concern is our own conformance with the new rules. We think – without being certain about it at this point – that what we’re doing now (see the Google advert at the top of this post) is sufficient. I sincerely hope so! We also are adding some additional text at the end of our health-related posts to make it as clear as we can that we are not doctors or other types of medical praticioners, and that our readers should not take our written word as being more valuable than their doctor’s verbal or written opinion. On the other hand, we also believe that anyone who is searching for a medical assistance should have the right and even the responsibility to consult a second (and even third and fourth) qualified source for an opinion before making an important health decision.
One thing that is sure is that the new statements must be made in the same style and size type-font as the content that contained the advertising. That is going to change the size and look of much advertising in the future, or at least we think so! Here is an example of what we expect to see in the near future (a little tongue-in-cheek, but not much ;-) ):
Anyway, stay tuned (and in this case, not just to Green Home MegaStore), to see what develops in the coming month.
Ciao for now and thanks for looking in!
