Clean water – what’s a reasonable definition?

Hi there,

As usual, I was looking though some of our rss feeds today, and this one – Obama Pressed to Increase Global Water Aid - caught my eye. Probably not for the reason you think – I’m sympathetic to the global safe water supply problems, but my concern is about MY drinking water! And YOURS!

I found another article (undated, but with references going back to as early as 2003) Study Finds Safety of Drinking Water in U.S. Cities at Risk that indicates that the public drinking water in many US cities is marginal – at best – and the chances of it improving are somewhere between slim and nothing. The contaminants they talk about are (this is a short list, there are more)

  • Lead, which enters drinking water supplies from the corrosion of pipes and plumbing fixtures and can cause brain damage in infants and children (remember the phrase, “it’s a lead pipe cinch”? That’s because most early water systems used handmade lead pipes to conduct the water, and many have never been replaced)
  • Pathogens (germs) that can make people sick, especially those with weakened immune systems, the frail elderly and the very young
  • By-products of chlorine treatment such as trihalomethanes and haloacetic acids, which may cause cancer and reproductive problems
  • Arsenic, which may cause cancer, serious skin problems, birth defects, and reproductive problems (and more of it can just plain kill you!)
  • Radon, the rocket fuel perchlorate, and other carcinogens or otherwise toxic chemicals

That’s a pretty nasty list, isn’t it?  And that doesn’t even cover the simple things like dirt and insects and animals entering into the water system.

The reason I bring the subject up is that we have access (for you) to a source of equipment and technology that you can use to improve the quality of your drinking water SIGNIFICANTLY!  We haven’t published this material here before, mostly because we just haven’t had the time yet.

If you have any concerns about your drinking water, I highly recommend that you look for solutions as soon as possible, and do what you think you need to do to protect your family, your pets, and yourself. I’m sure you will benefit from the products, it’s only a question of how much, since I can’t tell from here how much your drinking water is contaminated. Go green in your home is the only answer!

Ciao for now,
Craig
